The s eason finale,  "Posse Comitatus" closes several of  these s  torylines as Bartlet meets his opponent  in t he elections and re  affirms his commitmen t to be at him . The episode ends  with the  president fin ally deciding to order Shareef's as sassin ation (a legally questi onable act) and C.J .'s agen t's murder, just  after the  man threatening C. J. was caught.　　Fro m a critical perspe ctive, series cr  eator Aaron Sorkin acknowledged in Oc tober 2002 that t  he terrorism-related p lots desi gned  to keep the serie  s relevan t afte r the   real-life 9/11 attacks  were awkward at  times, saying "from  week to week, you felt like  you were wr  iting  the sho  w handcuffed, a little bit. I didn&# 39;t know how to wr ite it anymo re. It was a co nstant search for wha t I wasn't doing that  used to make the sh ow work. [. ..] Maybe th ere was a  way to make it work; th ere proba bly was. I wasn9;t able  to find  it in twenty-two episodes.
