The episode ends w ith the presid  ent finally deciding to or der Shareef';s assassina tion (a legally   questionable act) and C .J.' ;s agen t's murder, just af ter the man threate ning C.J. was ca  ught.　 　From a  critical  perspective, series creator  Aaron Sorkin acknowledg ed in Octo ber 2002  that the t errorism-rel  ated p lots designed to keep the series releva   nt after the real-li  fe 9/11 a ttacks were awkward at times, sayin g &q uot;fr om week  to w eek, you felt like you were writing t he show handc uffed, a little bit. I didn' ;t k  now how to wri te it a nymore. It wa s a const ant search for what I wasn't doing that used to make the show work. [...] Maybe ther e was a  way t o make i t work; there probably was.
