The se ason finale, &q uot;Posse Co mitatus&qu ot; closes several of these storylines as Bartlet meets his opponent in the election s and reaffirms his commitment to beat him. The episode ends w ith the president final ly deciding to order Shar eef' s assassin ation (a leg ally ques tionable act) a nd C.J .'s agent's murder, j ust af ter the man threatening C.J. w as cau ght. From a critical perspective, series creator Aaron Sorkin ac knowledged in Octo ber 2002 that the terrorism-related plots de signed to k eep the series rel evant after the real-life 9/ 11 attacks wer e awkward at times, sa ying "from week to week, you felt l ike you wer e writing the show handcuf fed, a little bit. I didn& #39;t know how to write it any more. It was a constant search for what I wasn't doing that used to make the show work. [. ..] Maybe t here was a way to mak e it work; t here probably was. I wasn';t able to fi nd it in twenty-two e pisodes."
