The seas on finale, "Posse Comitatus" clo ses sever al of the se storylines as Bartlet meets his opp onent in t he elections and re  affirms his com mitment t o beat him. The   episode ends with the president fin ally deci ding to order Shareef's  assassination (a lega lly questionable act) and C.J.'s agen t 9;s murder, just after th  e man threatening C.J. was caught. 　　From a critic  al p erspec tive, series crea tor Aaron Sorkin a cknowledged  in October 2002 that the  terr orism-r  elated plots d esigne d to keep the ser ies relevan t af ter the real-life 9/1 1 attac ks were awkward at times, saying " from week to week, you felt like you  wer e writi ng the show h andcuffed, a little  bit. I d idn't   know how to write it anymore. I t was a constant search for  what I  wasn't doing that used to make the show work. [...] Ma ybe there w as a way to  make it work; there probably was. I wasn't able to f ind it in twenty-two episodes."
