The s easo n fin ale, "Posse C omitatus" closes several o f these stor ylines as Bartlet m eets his  oppo nent in t he e lections  and rea ffirms his  commitment to be at him. Th  e episode ends with the preside nt fin ally deciding to order  Shareef' s ass  assina tion (a legally questionable act ) and C.J.'s agent's murder, just after t he man threatening C.J. w as caugh t.　　From a critical p erspective , series   crea  tor Aaron S orkin acknowledg ed in Octob er 2002 that the  terr orism-relate d plots designe d to keep the series relevant after the re al-life 9/11 atta  cks  were awkward a t times, saying "from week to week, yo u fe  lt like you we  re writi ng the show handcuffed, a little bi t. I didn' ;t know ho w to  write it any more. It  was a constant se arch fo r what I  wasn9;t doing  that us ed to make the show   work. [...] Maybe there was a way to make it work ; the re probabl y was. I wasn't  able t o find it in twenty-two  episodes."
