The bod  y, cut in half at the  waist, has been placed prec isely on the border betwee n th e count ries, thus falling unde r the jurisdiction of both the Danish and Swedish police  agencies. After furt her examination,  it turns out that the body  is that  of two separate  corpses,  with o ne half belongi  ng to a Danish prostitute. S aga Norén, from the Swedis h side, and Martin Rohde, from the D  anish  , lead the inves tigation to catch the murderer.[4][  5]　 　The inve stigation quickl y escalates  as a journalist, Daniel Ferbé, w hose  car  was used in th e crime, begins rece  iving ph one calls. The caller, who beco mes kn own as t he "Truth Terr orist";, claims t o be co mmit ting his crimes in order to draw  attention to variou s social problems. A social worke r, S tefan Lindb erg,  whose siste r beco mes a vict im o f the Truth Terrorist, be  comes an early suspect. However, events soon lead th e Danish and  Swedish teams to conc lude that the kille   r has connections to t  he police. They discover that the crimes have been planned over a period of several years. The trail eventually leads them to Jens, a  Danish policeman and f ormer close friend of Martin's, who wa s thought to have committed  suicid e after an accid ent on th e bri dge cau sed the deaths  of his wife and so n.　　In the course of the inve  stigation, Martin  and Saga   develop a close working relationship, a lthough they ar  e very differen  t people. Martin h  as a twenty -year  old so n from his  first  marr iage , August, wh o is now living with M  artin and his current wife, Mette, by who  m Martin has three childr en; af  ter Ma rtin has had a vasectomy, Mette disc overs that sh e is expecting twins. Saga lives alone and d oes not se em t o feel she ne  eds a serious re lationship, instead  picking up men in bars for   casua l sex. She appears t o have symptoms consistent wit h Asperg er syndrom e, r esulting i n dif ficulty establishing rela tions hips and feelings of inadequacy  in managing  people; she r efuses a pro motion for  this  latter re ason.　　After the   killer has murdered several people and successfully thrown red herrings in  the wa y of the investigation, his true purpose - to strike  at Mart in himself  - eventually becomes  clea  r. Jens, now calli  ng himself Sebastian  Sandstrod, first   approaches Mette , who is   susceptible to his advan ces, after learning that Mart in h as slept with Charlotte Söringer, a woman who is peripherally involv ed in the in  vestigat ion.  Sebastian lures Mette and her childre n to  a re mote spot w here  he subjects the  m to a terrifying  ordeal, l ocking them in wi th a ro om and giving her a ha nd grenade  with its  pin remove d to hol d as long as she can. How  ever, Saga reali ses that   August is the re  al t arget. The i nvestigation culminates in a confronta tion on the  bridge, where she cannot help but  tell Martin what happened   to Aug  ust and ha s to fi re at him in order to prevent him d estroying his career by  killing S ebastian,  the killer's f inal intentio n.　　“我又给您  装了两枚美人果，您不管是自己用，还是卖，都 是可以的。” 说到这里，她顿了顿，笑着道：“老祖，那个虎坤龟的大龟壳实在太 大了，我们没 人能弄开，所以……这活就交给您了，回头您 弄好了，赏我一个趁手的龟 盾就行！”
