It' s su ch a thrill t o now be playing one of  his b rilliant characters.  　　"Dirk is a chaotic, anarchic force of nature wi th a t  otally unique t ake on the w orld. H e is descr ibed as 'lazy, untidy, dismissive and unreliab le'. I've abso lutely no idea why they t hough t I'd  be right for the ro  le.&quo t;　　T   he Dirk Gently books ha  ve formed t he basis of a play a nd a BBC Radio 4 se ries but have never before been filmed  for TV.　　Adams&#  39;s a gent, Ed Victor, said: &quo t;For all the y ears I repre sented the  late, great Douglas Adams , th e most substantial  frus tration  for  both of us  was that we couldn't get films made either  of Hitchhiker or Dirk.　　&quo t;Douglas once said, memorably, t hat 'get ting a film made in Holly wood was like trying to cook a steak by having a bunch of  peo  ple come into the room and  breath e on it' ;.
