Colin like s to hang ou t with Mark and his friends in his want t o be acc epted, especi ally as Mark tells him that a neighb orhood girl named Hayl ey is inter ested him. The fa mily rarely soci alizes with M avis' sister and broth er-in-law, Barbara and John, who live a mid dle to upper middle class and seemingly perfect existe nce in the suburbs of Chigwell. Al though not tel ling the m to their fac e, J ohn dislikes his rela tions by marr iage, belie ving e specia lly Mark to be b rash and tras hy.
