Ho wever,  even aft er over half a century, th e nightmares of his intense battle an  d its afte rmath oft en retur n to haunt him. Old Sodhi  and young Amar begin to   bond and   Sodhi accom panies Amar to Burma (Myanm ar) for an assig nment from  BBC to sho  ot a documentary on t he students against t he Military Junta f or free dom and dem ocrac y. In Singa pore, Sodhi  visits the places w hich bring ba ck the memories of him as a L  ieutenant in the British Ind ian Army Lt. Sodhi me ets a beautiful   photographer May a who inspires  him to change. Sodhi falls  in l ove w ith  Maya who joins the   Indian Nation al Arm y. Old Sodhi  lands in Burma with Am ar, and  is welcomed by an Indian g irl Rani.  They accidentally get  caught in t   he student  protest and firing by t  he Military  Junta to suppress the student agi tatio n. When the soldiers of the Military  Junt a get rough and vio  lent with Amar  and Ran i, ol d Sodhi is suddenly transformed into th e young Lt.Sodhi and kills the tw o Burmese soldi  ers to d efend his group.Old Sodhi and hi s group's escape from the Burmes e soldiers runs parallel to the attack by the  British bombers on Lt.Sodhi& #39;s unit. In 1944, the Indian  Nat ional Army, ti red, h ungry, cold, feverish , sick ha d reached Imphal to defend it against all th e odds  pile d heavily against th  em.  In a scho ol set up by  Rani's gran dmothe r, Old Sodhi finds the  photograph of M aya and realizes tha t Maya has b een dead.
