When the two kidnappers a re a rrested, a local j ournal ist (Richard Carlson) writes a series of hate-fil led articles about the tw o prisoners which eventually lead to a brutal lynching . The despair of t he l ower mi ddle -class: A family man a shamed of being unemployed allows himself to be convinced by a gangster to take part in a kid nappi ng. The police arrests them both and the anger of the small town’s p opulation is unforgiving . THE SOUND O F FURY is a dar k crime mo vie that bui lds up to an ap ocalyptic storm, but never loses sight of social rea lities, thus telling a lot about the dai ly des pair of the wo rking-class.
