Miss Yang and Miss Hong, who are well ex perienced in thi s type o f business , are us ed to accepting propositions fro m customers. But Se- young, who is datin g a college student named Min-su, rejec ts all requests f or sexu al favors. When Min-su professes to h aving p roblems w ith his tu ition and fi nances, Se-young re assures him that she wi ll pr ocur e the necess ary funds for him. W hen the bar's clientele begin s to dw indl e because of Se-y oung, Ji-suk rep rimands he r severe ly. Se-young develops a close relationship wit h a Captain Pak a nd even all ows him to sleep with he r. She asks Captain Pak to fin d Min-su emp loyment on a boat, but when Min-su comes to Sokc ho f or his new job, he sees how Se-yo ung has been making h er living. Shock ed, h e turns his b ack on the job a nd leaves. When h e even tually returns to Sokcho, he scath ingly denounces Se-you ng's morality and s evers their relationship. De cades ago, Ji-suk had stum bled into the bar busin ess in a de sperate effor t to support her husband, who was s erving time in pr ison; she la ter left him voluntar ily out of shame and mora l degradation. Concerned that Se-you ng will end up with the same fate, Ji-suk asks Mi n-su to meet with her. She begs him not to aband on Se -young, but he flatly refuses.
