《天才反擊》是由知名导演瑪莎·庫利奇 执导的一部喜劇片，Val Kilmer Gabriel Jarret 等倾情出演，该片讲述了：　　Siskel  and  Ebert  once ran a special show   entitled ";Movies I&# 39;m Embarrass ed to Admit I Liked." I suppose  that if I composed su ch a list of guilty pleasures, th is one would  be one of them  . . . but up on reflectio n, it's really a lot better t  han that. Fiftee n year-old science  prodigy Mitch (Ga be Jar ret) is r ecruited by amb  itiou s college professor Wil liam Atherton (in yet  another   of his pa  tented roles as a lo athsome character) to work on the professor 9;s prize laser pro  ject, not knowing that th e prof is really developing a government w eapon. Alon g the way, Mitc  h is befrien ded by Chris (Val Kilmer), another p rodigy a fe  w years his senio r who teac hes the Mi tch how to  loose  n up.　　This could have degenerated into no thing m ore than  just another tee  n revenge co medy, but ther e's so much mo re: the dialogue is laced with sharp wit;   there are some  lovel y sce nes  that have nothing to   do with the story ye t are carefully set up, almost as black outs (e.g., Mitch g  oes to a lectur e at which  a few students h  ave  left ta pe recorders instead of attending; later, at another lecture there are more tape rec orders than st udents; and, in a fina l scene, o ne large tape recorder g ives the  lecture  to a room populated by nothin g but ot her sm all rec orders!); and throw -away scenes that mak  e you want   to stop  and back up the tape (e.g.,  Chris off-handedly cutting a slice o ff a ba  r of solid  nitrogen t o mak e a slu g fo r the coffee mac hine).　　It's als o one of  the few m  ovies to boast t he presence of th e memorab  le Michell e Meyerink  -- as Jordan, the "girl- nerd" who made being smart and f  emale somethin g to be e  mulated. An d ther e's Tears for Fe ars  great song, &q uot;Everybody Wan  ts to Rule the World& quot; providing the perfect coda as the closing credits b egin to r oll . . . .
